“When life gives you lemons, write jokes about dead lemons.”
— Michael Malone
Comedian Michael Malone’s life has been punctuated by tragedy. He’s been to over a dozen funerals, but just three weddings - two of which were for the same friend. No stranger to loss, Malone has had ample time to reflect on what it means to grieve, and how to move forward when you’ve outlived so many of your loved ones.
Michael is an award-winning comedian, film director, and writer who has been featured on Comedy Central, Showtime, Fox Television, Comcast on Demand, Hulu, XM Radio, Getting Doug with High, and The Bob and Tom Show. He can also be seen in a handful of feature films as well.
After losing his parents, Michael began opening up about his own personal grieving process on stage and later wrote and directed his debut stand-up special, "Laugh After Death" which now has over 2 million views on Amazon Prime.
While sharing about his own loss, Michael found himself connecting with his audience like never before and wanted to continue the conversation about grief, therapy, and the lessons he's learned on his journey, so in June of 2020 Michael published his first book, "Dead Serious."
Michael is currently touring with new material geared towards suicide prevention and mental health. He also just wrapped on the first six episodes of a new docu-series style project called, "Monsters" where he sits down with other stand-up comedians to discuss the demons they are battling in hopes to raise awareness and normalize conversations about depression, suicide, mental health, grief, sobriety, and addiction.
Michael’s message is more than just grief, it’s about picking up the pieces after any setback in life and how to move forward with those broken pieces.
“It Gets Better…”
This is a clip from Brad Garrett's Podcast, "No Prisoners." Michael shares advice on grieving and Brad closes out the show talking about Michael's stand-up special "Laugh After Death" and his book, "Dead Serious" which Brad wrote the foreword.
